The Power of Setting Boundaries in Vaughan

Setting healthy boundaries is an essential, yet often overlooked, part of maintaining good mental health. Setting boundaries protects our energy, helps us identify our physical and emotional boundaries, and lessens emotions of resentment and overwhelm. Burnout, worry, and strained relationships can result when we find it difficult to say no or feel bad about putting our needs first (Houth, 2024).

Karen works with clients at our Vaughan clinic to improve their ability to create boundaries, particularly in high-stress situations like family dynamics, job, or caregiving. One of the most important aspects of self-care is learning to distinguish between your comfort zone and other people's expectations.

Speight (2012) highlights the importance of boundaries in developing self-respect and productive interpersonal interactions, explaining that clear boundaries include psychological safety and mutual respect in relationships. Setting limits is an essential step in protecting one's emotional health and maintaining positive relationships with others, it is not an indication of selfishness.
