What is Self-Esteem?
Self-esteem is the confidence in one’s own worth or abilities. A lot of times we associate our self-esteem with things out of our control and based on the perceptions and opinions of others. Other than this, self esteem is shaped by your overall opinion of yourself, thoughts, and experiences including those related to culture, religion, and societal status. It is natural to feel better about yourself some days more than others, however in general you want to keep this to a healthy range. It can be detrimental to your mental health and day to day functioning if you have a lot more negative sense of self regularly.
Tips to Improve Your Self-Esteem:
Encourage yourself
Use positive affirmations
Accept your strengths
Separate feelings from facts
Focus on things you are in control of
Avoid comparisons
Be conscious of negative self-talk in order to change to positive thought patterns
